What are Default Apps?

Default apps are the ones Android opens automatically for a job — browser links, SMS, phone calls, email addresses and home screen launcher.

Change them under Settings → Apps → Default apps. This is the switch people miss when they install Chrome or a new keyboard and links still open in the old app.
