What is Google Account Sync?

Account sync keeps your contacts, calendar, Gmail, photos and app data flowing between your phone and your Google account, so a new phone can restore your digital life at sign-in.

Control it per data type under Settings → Passwords & accounts → [your account] → Account sync. If contacts or calendar entries stop appearing, toggling the affected type off and on is the standard fix.
