How to Set Up Parental Controls on Netflix

Netflix's parental controls are genuinely good — per-profile ratings, PIN locks, title blocking, viewing history — but they all live on the website, not the TV app, which is why most parents never find them.

Sign in at netflix.com in a browser → Account → Profiles. For each child's profile set a Maturity rating limit; for each adult profile add a Profile Lock PIN. That combination covers 90% of what families need.

Full setup, step by step

1. Create a Kids profile: Add Profile → toggle \"Children's profile\". It gets a simplified interface with only child-appropriate titles.
2. Set the rating ceiling: Account → Profiles → [child] → Maturity rating → choose the highest rating allowed (ratings are US/UK/CA localised automatically).
3. Block specific titles: same screen → Title restrictions — type a show's name to hide it from that profile entirely, even if its rating passes.
4. PIN-lock adult profiles: Account → Profiles → [adult] → Profile Lock → require a 4-digit PIN. Without this, controls are decorative — kids just tap your profile.
5. Stop new-profile creation: enable Profile Lock on all adult profiles; on newer account pages you can also restrict profile creation directly.
6. Check what they watched: Account → Profiles → [child] → Viewing activity.

Changes sync to every TV, tablet and console within minutes — sign the app out and in if a device seems stale. The Kids profile also disables autoplaying previews, which calms the browsing experience noticeably.

Troubleshooting

Child knows the PIN? Change it in the same Profile Lock screen; it takes effect everywhere. A show seems wrongly rated? Use Title restrictions for case-by-case blocks. Using a shared \"family\" profile? Split it — per-person profiles are what make ratings, history and recommendations work at all.
