What is Muting?

Muting hides someone's posts, stories or messages from you without unfollowing or blocking — they never know, and you can still visit their profile when you choose.

It's the diplomatic option every platform now offers (Instagram, X, WhatsApp, Facebook). Blocking, by contrast, cuts contact both ways and is usually detectable. For group chats, muting notifications while staying a member is its own separate switch.
