What is Spotlight?

Spotlight is the Mac's universal search: press ⌘+Space and type to launch apps, find files, do maths and unit conversions, and search the web — usually faster than any menu.

Tune what appears (and what's excluded from indexing) under System Settings → Siri & Spotlight. If results go stale or missing, rebuilding the index from the Privacy list there fixes it.
