What is Windows Security?

Windows Security (Microsoft Defender) is the built-in antivirus and firewall suite: real-time malware protection, ransomware folder protection, browser protection and device health checks in one dashboard.

For most home users it's genuinely sufficient — independent lab scores match paid rivals. Check its status under Settings → Privacy & security → Windows Security; everything should show a green tick.
