What is Time Machine? - illustrated definition card

Time Machine is macOS's built-in backup: plug in an external drive, switch it on, and the Mac keeps hourly, daily and weekly snapshots of everything — browsable back through time, file by file.

Set it up under System Settings → General → Time Machine. It's the difference between a stolen laptop being a disaster and an inconvenience; any cheap USB drive larger than your Mac's storage works.
