What is Safe Mode (Windows)? - illustrated definition card

Safe Mode starts Windows with only essential drivers and services — no third-party startup apps — so you can diagnose crashes, remove stubborn malware, or uninstall a broken driver.

Reach it via Settings → System → Recovery → Advanced startup → Troubleshoot → Startup Settings. If a problem disappears in Safe Mode, a driver or startup program is the culprit.
