What is Gatekeeper?

Gatekeeper is macOS's app-vetting system: it checks downloaded apps are from identified developers and notarised by Apple before they run, and blocks known malware outright.

Its policy lives under System Settings → Privacy & Security. When a legitimate app is blocked, the Open Anyway button appears there for a case-by-case exception — safer than loosening the policy globally.
