What is Dolby Atmos? - illustrated definition card

Dolby Atmos is three-dimensional sound: instead of fixed channels, audio objects are placed anywhere in space, including overhead — rain falls from above, aircraft pass over you.

You need Atmos content (most big streaming originals), a supporting device, and an Atmos-capable soundbar, receiver, or headphones. Even without ceiling speakers, virtual Atmos on soundbars and headphones is a real improvement.
