What is Motion Smoothing?

What is Motion Smoothing? - illustrated definition card

Motion smoothing (marketed as TruMotion, Motionflow, Auto Motion Plus…) inserts computer-generated frames between real ones to reduce blur — and gives films the infamous hyper-real "soap opera effect".

It's on by default on most TVs. For movies, turn it off or use the dedicated Filmmaker Mode picture preset, which disables such processing exactly as directors intend. Keep it for sport if you like ultra-smooth motion.
