What is HDR?

What is HDR? - illustrated definition card

HDR (High Dynamic Range) expands the brightness and colour a screen can show: sunlight genuinely dazzles, shadows keep detail, colours reach further. Many viewers notice HDR more than the jump to 4K.

Formats include HDR10 (universal), Dolby Vision and HDR10+ (both add scene-by-scene optimisation). The content, the app, and the TV must all support a common format for it to engage.
